Chennai, 14 November 2025: NAREDCO Mahi, the women’s wing of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), hosted its Chennai Real Estate Meet at Taj Coromandel, spotlighting the growing leadership of women in shaping the future of Tamil Nadu’s real estate sector. The event brought together government officials, industry leaders, developers, and women professionals to discuss inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven growth in South India’s property market.

Women Are Transforming the Real Estate Ecosystem: NAREDCO Mahi President

In her opening remarks, Ms. Smita Dhanraj Patil, President, NAREDCO Mahi, emphasized that women’s involvement is fundamentally reshaping how the real estate ecosystem functions.

“Empowering women is not a social cause; it is an economic strategy. Women leaders bring transparency, empathy, and long-term vision to an industry that directly impacts communities,” she said.

She highlighted Mahi’s mission to create equal opportunities for women professionals and entrepreneurs and to foster gender-balanced decision-making across the sector.

Tamil Nadu’s Real Estate Market Among India’s Most Transparent: TN RERA Chairman

Shri Shiv Das Meena, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Tamil Nadu RERA, praised the state’s progressive regulatory landscape. He noted that Tamil Nadu has emerged as one of India’s most transparent real estate markets, owing to strong governance, compliance, and public accountability.

He stressed the need for continued collaboration between the government and industry stakeholders to drive innovation and inclusive growth.

Women’s Participation Is Key to Sectoral Transformation: Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani

Addressing the audience, Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Chairman, NAREDCO, highlighted the workforce transformation required to unlock the full potential of India’s second-largest employer—real estate.

“If women are not equally part of this growth journey, we are overlooking half the potential that can redefine the sector. The future must be shaped by skilling, leadership opportunities, and increased participation of women across construction, finance, and design,” he said.

Panel Discussion: Strengthening Consumer Confidence Through Collaboration

A key attraction of the meet was a panel discussion titled:

“From Regulation to Realisation: How RERA, Developers, and Women Leaders Can Jointly Enhance Consumer Confidence”

Moderated by Ms. Sukanya Kannappan, Vice President (South), NAREDCO Mahi, the panel explored:

  • The critical role women play in project communication

  • Ensuring compliance under RERA

  • Strengthening consumer trust through transparency

  • Encouraging sustainable and consumer-centric development practices

Industry speakers agreed that women leaders are increasingly becoming the bridge between regulators, developers, and consumers.

Focus on Policy Alignment, Skilling & Mentorship for Women in Real Estate

The event’s deliberations highlighted three core priorities:

1. Policy Support for Women Developers

Ms. Smita Patil called for enabling policies such as faster approval processes and reserved leadership roles to encourage more women to enter and thrive in real estate.

2. Skill Development & Leadership Training

The meet emphasized the need for structured training, exposure to new technologies, and on-ground learning for women.

3. Mentorship & Professional Growth

NAREDCO Mahi aims to build a supportive ecosystem where women can learn, collaborate, innovate, and lead confidently.

Ms. Patil urged women to be self-driven, resilient, and ready to take on leadership roles in an evolving real estate landscape.

Women’s Inclusion Can Build Stronger, Resilient Cities

Dr. Hiranandani reinforced that integrating more women into formal real estate employment and entrepreneurship directly contributes to India’s economic goals.

“If we can train and integrate women across planning, execution, and management, we are building stronger, more resilient cities,” he stated.

A Shared Commitment to Inclusive Growth in Tamil Nadu

The meet concluded with a collective pledge by policymakers and industry leaders to make inclusivity and sustainability core pillars of Tamil Nadu’s real estate growth. Recognitions were presented to speakers, partners, and NAREDCO Mahi members, followed by networking sessions that opened doors to new partnerships and future collaborations.
