Amazon Expands into Quick Commerce with Amazon Now
E-commerce giant Amazon has launched its 10-minute delivery service, ‘Amazon Now’, in select areas of Bangalore. The company initially tested the service among employees and is now rolling it out in specific pin codes.
Amazon Plans Wider Expansion of Quick Commerce
Reports suggest that Amazon aims to expand this ultra-fast delivery service to more areas soon. Initially tested under the name ‘Tez’, the service focused on groceries and daily essentials. Now, Amazon is also adding beauty, home, and kitchen products to its quick commerce portfolio.
Amazon’s Late Entry into the Quick Commerce Market
In November last year, Amazon announced plans to reduce delivery times to 20-30 minutes. By early 2024, the company had already expanded its grocery delivery service to 130 cities, including smaller towns like Ambala, Aurangabad, Hoshiarpur, Dharwad, and Una.
However, Amazon’s entry into quick commerce comes late compared to competitors. Flipkart introduced its ‘Minutes’ service in August last year to cater to the rising demand for instant delivery.
Rising Competition in Quick Commerce
The quick commerce battle is intensifying beyond metro cities, with major players expanding into Tier II and III markets. Companies are also increasing the number of dark stores (small warehouses that enable faster local deliveries).
Earlier this year, Zomato announced plans to open 2,000 dark stores by December 2025, while Swiggy has already launched 10-minute food delivery in 400 cities, aggressively expanding in smaller markets.
Can Amazon Compete in the Fast-Paced Market?
With Amazon stepping into the quick commerce segment, the competition with Swiggy, Zomato, and Flipkart will be worth watching. As the demand for ultra-fast deliveries grows, the race for dominance in this sector is set to become even more intense.
