New Delhi, 5 March 2026: Strengthening the longstanding cultural ties between India and Russia, the internationally renowned Kostroma Russian National Ballet will present Russia’s cultural and educational project Global Dance Overture at Kamani Theatre on 3 March 2026.
The cultural evening will be inaugurated by Vivek Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, who will attend the event as the Chief Guest. The programme will also be graced by Denis Evgenievich Alipov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to India; Sandhya Purecha, Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi; and Elena Tsarenko, Director of the Kostroma Russian National Ballet.
The initiative is supported by the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India, and Sangeet Natak Akademi under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
As part of the cultural programme, the Kostroma Russian National Ballet will stage the spectacular Russian National Dance Show, a large-scale choreographic performance that celebrates Russia’s rich heritage and diverse traditions. Created by Yuri Tsarenko, Chief Choreographer and Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, the show has captivated more than seven million spectators across 50 countries on five continents.
Through elaborate costumes, vibrant stage design, and authentic choreography, the performance highlights the dance cultures of different regions of Russia, including the Caucasus, Buryatia, Siberia, the Far North, and Central Russia, offering audiences a glimpse into the country’s historical and cultural diversity.
Adding an Indian dimension to the evening, dancers from India will present “Jayati Jaya Mama Bharatam,” a specially curated choreographic composition celebrating the country’s pluralistic cultural identity. The performance will weave together selected folk dance traditions from across India into a unified artistic narrative.
Ahead of the main performance, an educational workshop under the Global Dance Overture initiative was conducted on 2 March 2026 at Meghdoot Theatre-I, Rabindra Bhawan in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi. The limited-participation programme featured dance demonstrations, cross-cultural workshops on Russian and Indian dance traditions, and a collaborative “Round Dance of Friendship” flash mob designed to encourage artistic exchange among young dancers and choreographers.
The Global Dance Overture event in New Delhi marks another important step in India–Russia cultural cooperation, highlighting how dance continues to serve as a universal language that strengthens people-to-people connections and promotes international cultural understanding.
